The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has confirmed that Peter Obi remains eligible to contest for its 2027 presidential ticket, despite still being a member of the Labour Party.
ADC’s interim spokesperson, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, told Nigerian Tribune that both Obi and ex-Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai were granted “special concessions” as part of broader coalition strategies.
“Peter Obi is part of the coalition. He and Mallam Nasir El-Rufai were given special concessions by the party because their followers were given tickets to contest elections,” Abdullahi stated.
He explained that the arrangement allows Obi and El-Rufai to temporarily remain in their parties to support loyal candidates contesting under the LP and SDP.
“The understanding is that since their followers had secured tickets in LP and SDP, they stay back until the processes are completed. They will be allowed to join fully after the elections,” Abdullahi added.
