- Adetoun Onajobi responded to the announcement of the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Nigerian activist Adetoun Onajobi has sparked online debate following her reaction to the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a strongly-worded video shared online, Adetoun stated that she would not mourn the late leader, criticizing his failure to improve healthcare and infrastructure during his time in office. According to her, Buhari sought medical treatment abroad and died in a foreign hospital, while Nigerian hospitals remained underfunded and poorly equipped.
“If Buhari died at the age of 81, it’s all well and good,” she remarked. “All the power and wealth is over now.”
Adetoun called on current Nigerian leaders to take a lesson from Buhari’s passing, reminding them that “life is fleeting” and that their legacy will depend on how they serve the people.
She ended her message with the caption, “RI Pieces,” a phrase that drew mixed reactions from social media users. While some supported her stance, others condemned her for speaking ill of the dead.

The incident was posted by TikTok user @ajike123_, who showed visible signs of injury sustained during the attack. In the video, she can be heard questioning the man’s actions:
“Is it by force? You called me and I didn’t respond, so you decided to beat me with a cane. What did I do wrong?”
In the caption accompanying the post, she criticized the mentality behind the assault, writing:
“I don’t understand why some men act so stupid and senseless. Just because a woman doesn’t answer your call, you think it’s okay to beat and insult her? Let my experience serve as a warning.”
