Popular Nollywood actor Sylvester Madu was recently seen at the Zion Prayer Movement Outreach (ZPMO) led by Evangelist Ebuka Obi, where he had a brief encounter with the preacher in front of the congregation.
In a circulating video, Madu who survived a near-death experience in Cameroon during a film shoot years ago was observed respectfully requesting prayers from the cleric. As he moved to kneel in front of the evangelist, Obi halted him, explaining that it wasn’t necessary.
Despite Madu’s insistence, Evangelist Obi explained that he couldn’t pray for him at that moment due to his packed schedule. He cited preparations for the ministry’s “Open Heavens” program scheduled for 11 p.m. on Friday, which required his focus and personal prayer time beforehand.
The evangelist, known for his humility, emphasized that he discourages people from kneeling before him. He reassured Madu that he would see him the following day. During the exchange, Evangelist Obi also shared his admiration for Madu’s acting skills, noting that he enjoyed his movies and even described Madu’s approach to his film roles.
While many viewers appreciated the respectful interaction, some were puzzled by Obi’s refusal to offer even a brief prayer or reschedule immediately. Others reacted to the decision to share the footage publicly, sparking mixed reactions online.
This isn’t the first time Madu has been the center of public attention. Years ago, he drew headlines after being seen selling clothes in an open market, which led to speculation that he was dealing in second-hand items (okrika). The actor later clarified the nature of his business, dismissing the rumors.
