Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, is a Nigerian hype woman, reality TV star, actress, content creator, and model. She rose to national fame after emerging as the winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7 (Level Up edition) in 2022. Known for her vibrant personality and bold presence, Phyna has since built a career in entertainment, acting, and business.
Early Life and Education
Phyna was born on June 2, 1997, into the Otabor family. Though she was born in Lagos State, she hails from Auchi in Edo State, South-South Nigeria. She spent her formative years between Lagos and Auchi in a devout, close-knit family. Her upbringing was guided by strong moral and Christian values instilled by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Otabor.
A naturally talented and expressive child, Phyna was involved in her church choir, drama club, and acting groups throughout her early education. She completed her secondary education in 2013 with solid academic results before proceeding to Auchi Polytechnic, where she studied Engineering.
Career

Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) Journey
Phyna entered the Big Brother Naija Season 7 house in 2022, joining housemates like Bryann, Bella, and Chichi. Her strong character and authenticity quickly made her a fan favorite. She eventually won the show with 40.74% of the final vote, beating Bryann, who earned 26.74%.
Her win came with a ₦100 million prize ₦50 million in cash and ₦50 million worth of prizes. Phyna became the second female to win BBNaija, following Mercy Eke.
Acting Career
After BBNaija, Phyna transitioned into Nollywood. Her debut film “Last Man Standing” premiered on YouTube and featured notable faces like Boma Akpore, Savior “Pharmsavi” Akpan, and Oluwadolarz. Directed by Moyin Ezekiel, Phyna called the film her “kickstart” into the movie industry.
She has also appeared in “Osato” and “Unholy Saint”, where she continued to build her acting portfolio.
Controversies
Phyna has had her share of public controversies. In one case, she accused Big Brother Naija organizers of withholding her full prize, specifically a 1 BTC crypto reward. Her public complaint stirred online debate, questioning the transparency of reality TV shows in Nigeria. However, fellow BBNaija winner Whitemoney later confirmed she received the remaining prize, including the Bitcoin.
She was also involved in a public dispute with Israel DMW, Davido’s aide, over comments she made regarding his failed marriage. The fallout led to online back-and-forths and further media attention.
Personal Life
Phyna is currently single, with no public record of marriage or children. Before her BBNaija fame, she lived in a well-furnished apartment in Lagos and ran a successful fashion business. She remains deeply loved by her loyal fan base, Phynation, who have supported her throughout her journey.
