Farmers in the Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State have allegedly faced threats from suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group, who cautioned them against abandoning traditional cattle-driven farming practices in favor of mechanized equipment.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the terrorists issued a warning that anyone found utilizing mechanized tools instead of cattle for farming would face execution.
This warning has instilled fear and panic among residents of the affected communities, many of whom had started transitioning to modern farming techniques due to the ongoing cattle rustling in the area.
“Now, the terrorists are dictating how we should farm,” a local source was quoted as saying. “They forbid us from using machines. When we use cattle, they seize them. We’re farming both for sustenance and commercial purposes.”
An intelligence source has also reportedly verified that the threats are credible and have circulated among various villages in Augie LGA. Community members are now urging for immediate intervention from the Nigerian military and government.
