The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man accused of assaulting three young women during a birthday celebration at a nightclub in Port Harcourt over the weekend.
According to viral videos and statements shared on social media, the women had reserved a table to mark a friend’s birthday when a confrontation broke out. One of the victims claimed the male patron accused them of recording him, which allegedly triggered a violent reaction.
The disturbing footage showed one woman bleeding from the head, another missing a front tooth after reportedly being punched, and the third narrating how she was pushed down a staircase, stripped naked, and beaten by the suspect and his entourage.
Following public outrage, the police launched an investigation into the incident. In an update shared, the command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, revealed that the suspect was arrested on Saturday, June 14, and released the following day, Sunday, June 15, after an interview session with the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, which also included the victims.
The police say investigations are still ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack and ensure justice is served.
