- A court has remanded 52 Ambrose Alli University students in prison following their arrest over a protest against kidnapping and insecurity in Ekpoma, Edo State.
- The late-night arrests have sparked tension and renewed concerns about both security and students’ rights.

An atmosphere of anxiety has gripped Ekpoma after a magistrate court ordered the remand of 52 students of Ambrose Alli University (AAU) in connection with a recent protest over rising cases of kidnapping and insecurity in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State.
Reports gathered by IjeomaDiary indicate that the students were picked up in a late-night operation from various hostels across the university town, days after a peaceful protest held on Saturday.
The protest was staged to highlight the deteriorating security situation in Ekpoma, where residents have complained of frequent kidnappings, with some victims reportedly abducted from their own homes.
Speaking to SaharaReporters, some of the affected students claimed the arrests were carefully planned, alleging that police officers invaded several hostels in the dead of night and arrested students at random.
After their arrest, the students were taken before a court, which ordered that they be held in custody for 14 days pending further proceedings.
The incident has sparked fear and outrage within the AAU community, with students and residents expressing concern over both the persistent insecurity in Ekpoma and the crackdown on those who protested against it.
