At least 41 babies have been delivered at the Makurdi IDP camp sheltering victims of the June 13 Yelewata herdsmen attack.
Camp manager Robert Nyom also confirmed three stillbirths and two adult deaths due to health complications.
“Outside those two, the IDPs are doing very well. There is peace and calm in the camp,” he stated.
Camp manager Robert Nyom said the Benue State government, along with groups like UNICEF, IOM, UNHCR, WHO, and others, are supporting IDPs with food, medical care, psychological aid, and sanitation services.
To maintain order, the camp uses a block system for distributing relief materials. An ongoing survey is also assessing residents’ future plans.
“We want to understand their intentions whether they wish to return home, relocate, or stay here, and the reasons behind their decisions,” he explained. “If someone chooses to return, they will indicate what kind of support they would need. We just began the survey on Thursday, and we are yet to conclude or release the results.”
