Former President Goodluck Jonathan has reportedly agreed to run as the PDP presidential candidate in 2027.

According to a close ally who spoke to Vanguard, Jonathan accepted in principle to rejoin the race to address the growing poverty and hardship in the country.

The move is reportedly backed by influential political figures and elder statesmen who believe his previous tenure brought stability.

“Jonathan is being urged to contest again to reposition Nigeria. The idea is to give him one term to stabilise the system and possibly return power to the North by 2031 without much resistance from the South,” the ally revealed.

Jonathan has reportedly met with key figures, including IBB, and is rallying support in the South-South ahead of a 2027 comeback.

The PDP is said to be fully backing his return, amid growing nostalgia for his past administration.

Sources say PDP leaders have also met with Jonathan in The Gambia to persuade him to take the party’s presidential ticket.

People now admit they made a mistake by not re-electing him. He’s being asked to return and rescue the country,” Abdullahi told BBC Hausa Service. He also confirmed that Jonathan is laying down conditions, including clarity on the party’s primary process and his role if he accepts the offer.
