Funke Akindele has set a new benchmark in Nollywood as her latest film, Behind the Scenes, becomes the first Nigerian movie to cross the ₦2 billion mark in cinema revenue.
The historic milestone was announced by FilmOne, one of Nigeria’s leading film distribution companies, which disclosed that the film generated ₦2,103,039,706 within one month of its release.
In a post shared on X, FilmOne stated that the achievement further cements Akindele’s status as Africa’s most commercially successful filmmaker. The distributor described her as the highest-grossing producer, writer, and director in the history of West Africa’s film industry.
The record-breaking success also places the award-winning actress and filmmaker as the first individual to top the African box office for three consecutive years.
Reacting to the milestone, Akindele took to her Instagram page on Monday evening to express gratitude, describing the feat as remarkable.
“We have every reason to thank God. 2 billion and counting is not a joke. Ladies and gentlemen, Behind the Scenes to the world,” she said in a video message.
She further added, “Joy overflows, my heart is full of gratitude to God and my amazing fans. Reaching this incredible milestone and still counting would not have been possible without you. I’m deeply grateful.”
